Het nummer ‘Survival’ van Muse was het officiële nummer van de Olympische Spelen 2012. Nu de spelen er weer bijna op zitten, heeft Muse bevestigd dat ze op de slotceremonie zullen spelen. Aan het Engelse NME vertelt drummer Dom Howard het volgende over ‘Survival’: ”I’m happy with the song. It’s a proper Muse song It’s not something we just did for the Olympics. They sowed a seed by asking us to do some music but then five months went by. We showed them a few songs when they asked us about [playing the] closing ceremony and they loved it. It represented the enormous competition of what the Olympics is”. 

Andere acts die bevestigd zijn om te spelen op de slotceremonie zijn Ed Sheeran die samen met Pink Floyd ‘Wish You Were Here’ zal spelen en George Michael. Daarnaast zijn er vele speculaties over mogelijke optredens van The Who, Take That en zelfs de Spice Girls. Stiekem hopen velen, waaronder ikzelf, op nog een optreden van Arctic Monkeys.
